Leslie Scott
is the owner, manager, and trainer behind Scotsgrove. She has a BS in General Agriculture with a minor in Pre-Vet, a two-year certificate from the State University of New York in Riding School Instruction and Management, and has done graduate work in Equine Nutrition. A former American Horse Shows Association judge and NEPHA Instructor of the Year, she wrote the curriculum for and taught Horse Care and Stable Operations for Hennepin Technical College, where she achieved a 98% placement of graduates into the industry. Her students have competed at the national levels and served on the Boards of local and national equine organizations. She has been teaching for over 35 years, with an excellent safety record. She teaches at all levels and any age over 6 years old.

Leslie’s husband, Bob Scott, passed away in the fall of 2017. He was owner and grounds manager of Scotsgrove for many years. A Master of Foxhounds in Minnesota, Bob was a fountain of knowledge in horses, hounds, and the lay of the land. We’ll always remember Mr. Scott in his golf cart going about the farm with a friendly wave and his many stories about any number of topics. He will be missed, but his presence will always be felt at Scotsgrove.

Staff & Crew

Our barn manager and second instructor, Laurie Ridgeway, has been a valued part of the Scotsgrove team for over 15 years. A more than proficient rider, with show ring experience and success, she is a horsewoman who ensures the horses’ and riders happiness and safety. On top of managing the barn, Ms. Laurie also teaches lessons and gives a different perspective and experience for our riders.

Gwen Phifer, has been riding at Scotsgrove since 2001. A graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, she’s the person behind the website (hi!) and its growing changes. She doesn’t teach at the moment because she just had her first baby! But you can still see her and baby around for schooling events and under the pecan tree on random lesson days.

Kate Tighe has been a rider of Scotsgrove since she was a little girl and now she’s finally come into her own as an instructor and barn hand. Finally! She’s always stepped in as a responsible rider for problem horses and mentor to our younger riders. KT is a kind soul with a wealth of horse knowledge to put to use.

Scott Tate is a new addition to the barn crew. Adept in all things mechanical and constantly able to repair just about anything broken, he’s a great help while out at the barn.

Go Team Scotsgrove!

Our older students are also stepping up to the plate as beginning trainers, mentors, leaders, and barn hands. Plus our many wonderful barn family volunteers are always there when we need a helping hand. Truly creating a homegrown barn family. We really do have the best barn family ever. Thank you!

A big thanks to Emie McGee, Jackie Smith, Heather Daniel, Anne Clevenger, Donia Davis, and AK McMillan for being the biggest contributors of their amazing photos to use on the website.
